Social media is all about connections. However there are some people you may not want to stay in contact with so here are some ways of managing your social media and disconnecting from people you need to sever ties with.
You can use this free facebook application to check people who have moved away from you on facebook… people who unfriend you will flash up on the top right… Just refresh and they clear. Warning if you are of a nervous disposition don’t do this… can you handle the “rejection”? It does get easier and the more you use it for people you don’t really know the easier it gets.
To remove friends on facebook it is now very easy… just pick friends from the left hand menu then edit friends on the top right hand side. You will probably have to change the pull down menu from recently interacted to “All Friends” which gives you an alphabetical list. On Linkedin you can cull your connections here and if they try to reconnect they get an error from linkedin saying they can’t complete the process at present. If they ask to reconnect just allow ignore them. On twitter if you overuse your twitter account with constant drivel you should expect to be unfollowed and unless you are using this you will never know who or when… or if you have completely missed the point and forgotten to use it little and often then this app may have been used to dispatch you to the great abyss beyond… I believe that pruning your connections is probably a great way to promote new growth… but open to debate on this… do you want a huge tribe around you that may or may not be listening or a focused group of confidantes and collaborators?
